Limakis and Koliakoudakis, the greatest guitar duet on Crete

Guitar duo that has been going for 20 years. The two musicians share their compositions, but also selections from the global guitar repertoire.

Biography

Dimitris Koliakoudakis comes from Likotinara Apokoronou Chania, son of the excellent lyre player Nikos Koliakoudis. He began by studying alongside his father, with the lyre and later the lute. He went on to study sazi and Oriental theory with Ross Daly.

His acquaintance with the guitarist Achilleas Persidis is what leads him to the study of the guitar and his dedication to this instrument. Since then, he continues lessons with the guitarist Vassilis Rakopoulos. These guitarists are also the main influence and source of inspiration.

He still works with these musicians, but also with other important musicians in the field.

Giorgos Limakis was born in Chania where he started studying music at the age of 5. He holds a degree in classical guitar and classical harmony. At the age of 13, he started playing the electric bass, alongside his classical guitar studies.
He later continued his academic studies in contemporary classical music in London, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Music (Composition) from Middlesex University of London.
He was a personal student of the composer – director of the Royal College of Manchester’s MA Music Theater Department, Christopher Littlewood. In 2010 he won the 1st prize in the pan-Hellenic competition H.O.N. in Athens with the Natural Sound Trio, in the category of contemporary music ensembles together with Despina Drakakis and Evripides Stamatiou.
He has collaborated with great performers such as Haris Alexiou, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Nikos Portokaloglou, Dimitra Galani, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Elli Paspala, Yannis Kotsyras, Mario Frangoulis, Costa Hatzi, Haig Yazdjian as well as composers such as Eleni Karaindrou, Stavros Lantsia, Achillea Persidis and others from domestic and foreign music.
He was a key member of the Stavros Xarhakos orchestra for two years giving concerts in Greece and abroad.
He lives in Athens where he participates in various musical ensembles, as a musician and arranger, he composes music for his personal band with the main contributors being Yannis Kyrimkyridis – piano, David Lynch – saxophone and Thanos Hatziaanagnostou – drums. He gives private lessons in guitar and composition.
