    Giorgos Limakis

    Giorgos Limakis and Lefteris Papadakis are two remarkable figures in the world of music, with a deep-seated passion for jazz and a commitment to their craft that has seen them perform across the globe.

    Giorgos Limakis, born in Chania, Crete, began his musical journey at the tender age of five, studying the guitar under the guidance of his father. His dedication to music led him to the Bach Conservatory, where he graduated with a classical guitar and music theory diploma. He then moved to London to further his studies at Middlesex University, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2004 and a master’s degree in 2005.

    Limakis has collaborated with a plethora of musicians and composers, including Stavros Xarhakos, Eleni Karaindrou, and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou. He has also worked with renowned singers such as Charis Alexiou, Dimitra Galani, and Marios Fragkoulis. His musical journey has taken him to various groups, including Traveling Light and Oceania, showcasing his versatility and adaptability as a musician.

    Lefteris Papadakis, on the other hand, is a native of Chania, Greece. He started his musical journey on keyboards before switching to bass at the age of seventeen. His passion for music led him to Athens, where he enrolled in the Jazz department of the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, later moving to the Conservatoire de Lausanne HEMU and Berklee College of Music in the United States.

    Papadakis has performed extensively across the world, including appearances at prestigious events like the Montreux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, and Cully Jazz Festival. He has also had the privilege of working with acclaimed musicians such as two-time Grammy winner Jay Graydon, Jimmy Haslip, and Michael Landau.

    Together, Limakis and Papadakis form a dynamic duo, their combined talents creating a unique blend of traditional and modern jazz. Their performances are a testament to their deep understanding and respect for the genre, and their ability to improvise and create music in the moment is nothing short of mesmerizing.

    Limakis & Koliakoudakis: 20 years in the making

    Limakis and Koliakoudakis, the greatest guitar duet on Crete

    Guitar duo that has been going for 20 years. The two musicians share their compositions, but also selections from the global guitar repertoire.

    Biography

    Dimitris Koliakoudakis comes from Likotinara Apokoronou Chania, son of the excellent lyre player Nikos Koliakoudis. He began by studying alongside his father, with the lyre and later the lute. He went on to study sazi and Oriental theory with Ross Daly.

    His acquaintance with the guitarist Achilleas Persidis is what leads him to the study of the guitar and his dedication to this instrument. Since then, he continues lessons with the guitarist Vassilis Rakopoulos. These guitarists are also the main influence and source of inspiration.

    He still works with these musicians, but also with other important musicians in the field.

    Giorgos Limakis was born in Chania where he started studying music at the age of 5. He holds a degree in classical guitar and classical harmony. At the age of 13, he started playing the electric bass, alongside his classical guitar studies.
    He later continued his academic studies in contemporary classical music in London, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Music (Composition) from Middlesex University of London.
    He was a personal student of the composer – director of the Royal College of Manchester’s MA Music Theater Department, Christopher Littlewood. In 2010 he won the 1st prize in the pan-Hellenic competition H.O.N. in Athens with the Natural Sound Trio, in the category of contemporary music ensembles together with Despina Drakakis and Evripides Stamatiou.
    He has collaborated with great performers such as Haris Alexiou, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Nikos Portokaloglou, Dimitra Galani, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Elli Paspala, Yannis Kotsyras, Mario Frangoulis, Costa Hatzi, Haig Yazdjian as well as composers such as Eleni Karaindrou, Stavros Lantsia, Achillea Persidis and others from domestic and foreign music.
    He was a key member of the Stavros Xarhakos orchestra for two years giving concerts in Greece and abroad.
    He lives in Athens where he participates in various musical ensembles, as a musician and arranger, he composes music for his personal band with the main contributors being Yannis Kyrimkyridis – piano, David Lynch – saxophone and Thanos Hatziaanagnostou – drums. He gives private lessons in guitar and composition.

    Δύο κιθαρίστες και φίλοι πολλών ετών ,θα μοιραστούν τις ορίτζιναλ συνθέσεις τους για κιθάρα. Η γνωριμία τους ξεκίνησε γύρω στο 2003 όπου ήταν κ η αφετηρία για πολλές ζωντανές εμφανίσεις σε διάφορους χώρους ανά την Κρήτη και αρκετές φορές με προσκεκλημένους όπως τον Αχιλλέα Περσίδη, τον Βασίλη Ρακοπουλο αλλά και άλλους αξιόλογους μουσικούς. Οι δύο μουσικοί έχοντας συνεργαστεί με σπουδαίους μουσικούς και τραγουδιστές της Ελλάδας, θα μας αποκαλύψουν συνθέσεις για ντουέτο κιθάρας, με έντονο το αυτοσχεδιαστικό στοιχείο, μέσα σε μεσογειακό ηχητικό περιβάλλον.
